Back then, people had to use difficult Chinese characters. They were so complex that most people could neither read nor write.

The Hangeul they created is wonderfully scientific. Its vowels were modeled on heaven, earth, and human — "Cheon-Ji-In."

'·'는 하늘을, 'ㅡ'는 땅을, 'ㅣ'는 사람을 뜻해요. 이 세 가지만 합치면 'ㅏ, ㅓ, ㅗ, ㅜ' 같은 모음이 모두 만들어진답니다. ⏱ 11s
'·' means sky, 'ㅡ' means earth, 'ㅣ' means person. Combine just these three and you get every vowel, like ㅏ, ㅓ, ㅗ, ㅜ.

King Sejong did more than create letters — he made science tools like the rain gauge, sundial, and water clock, and worked for music, farming, and defense, all for his people.
